Summer Choices

It happens every summer. And every summer it’s hard to figure out. Which reunion, camping, wedding, or social event shall we plan to not miss? Each summer it feels like a fresh and painful problem, an important problem, to me. It’s easy for Elv. He is not walking down his hall of life with all of yesteryear’s doors hanging open. He’s refreshingly spontaneous about what’s happening today, enjoying the moment, completely unbothered by supposed social obligations of family and campings that have cropped up on our July calendar page.

This July is especially full. I made a list in my journal of all the things to just settle it in my mind once and for all. I can stop feeling all fomo about them and for a perfectly good reason. We made a plan with my sister and husband, way last October, to come to the cabin with us in July.

We’re really looking forward to this, actually. It’s an unprecedented adventure for us, and we hope it could become come a regular summer event.

While the calendar blossoms with possibilities I am settling into the old Stone House kitchen again little by little. Jolynn helped me yesterday to redo the shelves and to add rope lighting. Small changes make a big difference. So I’m loving this kitchen a little better again.

Milkweed is blooming right now. If you have any nearby, do go breathe its fragrance. There is another fragrance that is lovely like milkweed only more so, if you will. The basswood trees are almost ready to flower. What’s your favorite summer flower flavor?
