A Quiet Sunday Thankful List

  • The garden, beautifully in flower for bouquets.
  • Cooler weather campfires.
  • Simple homey things like bees on flowers and loons calling overhead as they fly between lakes.
  • The quiet: only traffic, the crickets, the far-away drone of a small plane, and a lawn mower in the distance, today. Yesterday was the Fireman’s Picnic, not quiet, next door, with loud music, loud voices, and a loud loud-speaker announcing things like the grilled steak is all gone and there will be an extrication demonstration out front in fifteen minutes. Live music followed all these events until 9PM, but finally the tents, people, and cars were all gone. The two ladder trucks holding up the huge USA flag and smaller Wisconsin flag high over the highway between them folded back down and backed into their garages in proper readiness again. The grills cooled off and it was finally quiet in time to go to bed in peace.
  • The lawn, beautifully mowed by Uncle Amos with patient precision.
  • Clorox and disinfectant wipes and bandaging. Two people in my world this week. I think I was in Walmart three different times for such things. All’s well that ends well. Enough said about that.
  • Peach pie
  • Family WhatsApp on Saturday when the day is shared in pictures. Geese, fresh salsa, gardens, and projects from Idaho, Nebraska, and Wisconsin.
  • And a thick Johanna Gains book of pictures of simple rooms. There was a parchment paper folded with dried flowers in it. I had forgotten. Just my bit of serendipity for the week.
