Gifts, What's Happening At Home

Evening, Again

I’ve been advising a friend to get something on her needles. It has to do with keeping at least part of your heart and mind grounded in something useful and thoughtful without the stress and complexities that seemingly never let up. Fall around here is scheduled full. If you’re so inclined you may attend/participate in all of it. People call it being supportive in your church and community. There’s a lot of good things to do everywhere you look. I’m all for one another-ing. But here’s one place that the saying “you do you” might actually be legitimate.

I found knitting needles and some worsted in the sewing drawer at the cabin and realized it was time for some needlework. I’m turning out simple little dishcloths that will be a gift for the next bridal shower. A personal gift to Miriam that says I took the time to create something useful and beautiful. (I’m feeling rather Aunt Eva-ish, right here). And if she uses them in her new little kitchen far away in Maine, she can think of home folks. This is so much better for me than keeping up socially in this uproarious, never ending whirl of busy work, play and community outreach. It’s all great stuff but so is quietly tending my own knitting.

Jo and I “went on an explore” today back to the storage units to look for a certain display cabinet. We were pleased to discover these eleven hickory rockers waiting to be sold. We asked the guys to bring a few in. I put price tags on them and set them around in our store. They’re the nicest rockers ever. They fit in anywhere and beg to be sat in. Besides they are beautiful. Do come in for your rocker, a new throw, and some fresh gourmet coffee grounds in autumn flavors.
