December is bursting with delightful events to aid in and attend. Company to come. Winter chores to do. Birds to feed and watch. Coffee and gifts to share.

I am sitting here this morning with my granola and coffee, the washer is churning out the first load of laundry when I hear a notification on my phone come in. I almost reached for it. Suddenly, I had this brilliant idea. What if I would just do one thing at a time for today. Why not savor my cereal and coffee without interruption? Isn’t it enough efficiency to have the washer going? And am I not already entertained and distracted enough with the birds chirping and fluttering just outside my window at the feeder?
Oh I know, there’s a million things to get done before whatever is next important. But, actually I don’t want to come in after Christmas to the finish line panting and spent. None of this is that important. My contribution to my family and society will be worth a lot more if I will slow down enough to smell the coffee.
One thing at a time with no skipping quiet time or breaks. Let’s see how this goes.
It might mean that we must say “no” to something majorly fun or “important”, though. I hate to think about it too long, because I do guilt like a pro all the way to losing sleep.
Who has this figured out and please do tell.
