Living a Beautiful Life

And not vicariously, through Instagram or the likes of that imposter of one’s own zest and very wits.

The lowliest room at our house has a cactus blooming in the window sill for the second time since last late fall. I’m far more gratified with this than if I saw someone else’s whole conservatory on a reel.

Tiana brought Jolynn and I coffee while we were doing a very thorough cleaning of our inventory garage on Tuesday. Selah wrote our names on our cups. I got such a kick out of celebrating friendships and a good job by taking a picture. The coffee was wonderful. Thank you, Tiana and Selah. . Hey, we have canoes for sale, you guys. They are gorgeous.

Oh the joys of spring and rubber boots. “With these boots I could be a great explorer.” A quote from a book that the grandkids want to hear over and over.

The loveliest, most beautiful sink and faucet setup, ever, came to this old house last week. It’s for real. Thanks to you know who you are!

Flower bouquets for the elderly. What’s more beautiful than real flowers in March? Not found online!

Mom showed us her stash of crocheted doilies. Apparently she lives a real and beautiful life with actual materials and tools. I’m inheriting some of those one day.

I said I wanted to go snow shoeing. So I was in the front room upstairs sitting by Mom’s Library at the cabin, reading. I looked up and saw the sunshine on blue snow and realized I’d better go for it immediately. It’s impossible to regret snowshoeing in the sunshine on a Minnesota winter day.

One of Elv’s yummy breakfasts. Yes, I have a beautiful life for real.

Mom Graber’s library.

The alcove in the evening where there are no “interwebs” available. Just quiet, books, a warming fire in the stove. I promise you this spot delivers the best endorphins ever. Whatever they are. But like nothing you’ll ever find by scrolling the ridiculous phone.

This too. Get yourself an instrument and make your own music.

There’s my rant for the moment. God bless you with real books, real work, real music, and a real whole you to boot.

  1. I adore this post and your take on life. You are really a photographer. The cactus, the snowshoes, and Elv reading are my favourites. Now I really want to come and have coffee again.
