Flying Ideas

On Alaska Airlines people read books and take naps. There are no screens.

Sometimes people meet new people. Mostly, it’s quiet and calm on purpose in the cabin. Children play out loud. Adults endure with neck pillows and headphones.  Most often I read a book or nap.

On the way home, I have a chance to think. And plan. I make lists of home keeping chores. Mom has again been an inspiration to me. Her home shines and welcomes.

Upon opening my suitcase at Mom’s a musty smell greeted me. All during church Sunday morning, my sweater berated me. When I get home I intend to empty the closet and we shall have a cleaning! This might help, but lower level rooms tend toward mustiness in spite of dehumidifiers and deodorizers.

Again, I saw that Mom’s refrigerator is organized and equipped with salad things and frozen breads and berries. Cakes.  Cheeses and meats. Fresh veggies. She has a plan and ingredients to do them.

I make plans for well spent home days and long winter evenings. Looking out I see gray below us and the space blue above.  Suspended…cocooned, yet hurtling toward those plans far more swiftly than it seems.
