It’s been nice Saturday, full of interest. The orchid that Lance brought to me a couple years ago has five buds on.
We had a load of elm wood chunks to work up for firewood. It was mostly dry so it had no bark left on it to speak of. But I soon figured out that green elm can have lost it’s bark too and retain its weight and water. These are stringy and stubborn in the splitter as well. Thanks. Benny and Asher for helping me to finish the project this afternoon.
Just for fun I had set up my phone to video us working on the wood for a few minutes. While this was going I heard that eagle (the one that’s been hanging around all week) shriek again over the noise of the splitter and the tractor. Looking up we saw two eagles high up in the white pine tree, mating. Wouldn’t that be great if that pair would nest right over the known rabbit warren and squirrel infestation around here. Then I remembered my phone videoing. Sure enough, at 1.5 minute one of the eagles landed in the tree and at 5 minutes the other one landed beside her catching the whole mating, too. So the video of us doing firewood is boring as I expected, but the eagles took care of that. Maybe Elv and I are some sort of odd ducks who get kicks out of nature. If so, we’ll take it.

One more happy thing from our day. This evening we had some of Haviah’s cheesecake as our evening snack in the living room listening to the velvety snapping of our elm wood fire. Havilah is headed to Nationals with her Bible quizzing in a few weeks and needs to raise her own money to pay for her travel expenses. So she’s making cheesecakes to sell. They’re yummy and I would recommend helping her out by ordering a few for yourselves. If I had a link, I’d put it here. Perhaps I can get someone to add it in the comments for me.
