I’m really thankful for Elv, not only as my husband; but as Dad of our kids and Grandpa to our twenty grandkids. He’s made it his business to help me to celebrate the birthdays this year. He buys gifts and takes off early if need be so that we can have supper and a relaxed evening with the birthday grandchild of the day.
Grandma Graber showed us how to do this birthday supper thing. Except more so. She would make a big cake and decorate it elaborately for our kids. They can still tell you about some of those cakes.
Most of all she taught us all how to celebrate. Any little excuse would suffice. So I suppose I could be more elaborate about Valentine’s Day than I am. I remember when life was topped out with growing children, work, bills, and school, how I would try to get a little extra for us two. Let’s just say that I’ll take flowers and a long evening at home ahead of those early frantic efforts at trying to keep up with a sparkling bottle and stem ware.
So that was a scattered commentary of two different celebrations. Cheers.
I really love this post. Elv’s buying the gifts and the way you celebrate each grandchild. Those are memories they’ll never forget.
