Picture Post

Several years ago Aunt JoEllen gave me a start of a bleeding heart plant. This year of all years it decided to grow tall and it’s sporting many heart shaped flowers. This year when maybe we will sell the place. So, I’ll take it with me.

This room that I have a zillion pictures of from the last forty years is now ready for listing. We still love this old house. I don’t think it will ever be as loved… Or hated, for that matter,  as it is/was by us.

If walls could tell the stories…. Well, they can’t. We’ve lived here through the raising of seven children, their school days, some of them  home school days, the weddings, twenty something grandkids, almost all the way to retirement. I used to try to write the stories of all the remodels and changes in this house. I’ve given that up. It’s unending.

I learned how to keep home here. How to design and decorate on pennies. How to create cabin and cottage rooms. Elv learned to trust my brainstorms and then helped me bring those ideas to life.

Now, I wonder how to feel about selling it. It’s been such a constant for us, through church changes and job changes and life changes. Once we rented it out to neighbors and did farm jobs for a few years. Afterwards, we shoveled out the chaos, literally, and cleaned and came home. There was the time that lances lived here for three years while we lived at our cabin and then rented till they bought a house for themselves. So we’ve always been able to come back after our wanderings.

To be continued.
