Hiatus

She hadn’t really truly stopped writing blog posts. Although it seemed so. It was a problem of feeling that there wasn’t anything new to say. It was always about selling the house or memories or trusting the Lord. All around the same tree over and over.

Her journal was catching the words about thoughts and events and good ideas. And some not so great things as well. Because that’s how life dishes out sometimes.

There were the troubling things like his heart not behaving well. And about needing more sleep and the same old moans as boring as snores at midnight. Nobody wants to hear about this stuff. Of course not.

There was the zoning circus that they were obligated to navigate. Changes had to happen and the listing out in the big public world was now inaccurate. Two stops forward. One step back. Progress was almost imperceptible.

So she stopped blogging for weeks through the summer. There wasn’t time for one thing. And yes, the same old stuff.

Meanwhile fall came and projects were accomplished. There were worthwhile discoveries along the way. Answers to prayer. Goals were reached.

They both were working on how they felt about selling and moving away from, changing,  when the harder they worked to get things up to snuff (zoning stuff) the more invested they felt in the old house. This wasn’t making it easier. Not at all. Now that they put in long evenings and whole Saturdays of effort and upgrades, they questioned their bright, happy plans.

Until, they sat down and thought it all through again. No, there were still those four solid reasons. And they decided again that they should trust the Lord. Honestly, they understood how blessed they were.

The best lesson learned, I think, is that we can stop running today. We choose our level of busyness. I get to stop right here and spread out a puzzle. I choose. I have the amazing privilege of getting out of bed early to walk our two miles before the crazy ensues. I’m not bragging and I hope to not be insensitive. I realize that I am truly blessed. I can read books, paint a windowsill, or make banana bread in my own beautiful home. Skip the screens and the rat race. I choose.

Even though we lost a month of having the house listed, we won’t fret. Even though we have had a “no” over there; that gave us a “yes” over here.

Isaiah 26:3 csb

You will keep the mind that is dependent on you in perfect peace, for it is trusting in You.
